Ever heard the term: “Everything in moderation?” This applies to a wide range of factors that affect your heart health. But one of the most important factors to moderate is your sodium intake.
Salt is a necessary mineral in our diets, but not in the amount most people consume on a daily basis. The average American should only eat about 2,300 milligrams per day, or 1,500 milligrams if they are at risk of heart disease. In reality, most people consume twice that amount. Most of our sodium consumption comes from one sneaky source: pre-packaged foods. Simply checking ingredient labels can dramatically cut down on a family’s sodium intake.
So keep an eye on food package labels, and try to avoid reaching for the salt shaker at every meal. After all, a little less salt goes a long way when it comes to your heart health.
